We are the Owners of Simply Toofers! We are a passionate group of sisters and mothers working each day to bring just a little bit of pretty to the world via the best baby products around. We know that you can shop anywhere online, but we appreciate you supporting our small business! We can't wait to grow with you and your Little Ones!
If you had asked Mary what she wanted to be when she grew up, you would have received a shrug of the shoulders and an “I don’t know” in response. But that wasn’t entirely true. What Mary always wanted to be was a mom. Since she did want a career first, she got a B.S. in Chemistry in 2003 from Murray State University, where she also met her handsome husband Jay. Shortly after graduating, Mary and Jay relocated to Indianapolis where she realized that she didn’t want to work in a Chemistry lab and promptly enrolled in nursing school through Indiana University. Don’t worry—she actually enjoyed being in school for a ridiculous number of years. In nursing school, Mary found her passion and began working on an Obstetric unit at an Indianapolis hospital after receiving her BSN.
In 2009 after struggles with infertility and miscarriages, Mary finally got her lifelong wish and became a mom to Lyla. Kai and Reese followed within a few years, and Mary entered full on “mom” mode. Mary is an active member of the PTO at her kids’ school, she schleps her kids around town in a mini-van like all the cool moms do, and she can be found at any point with a cup of coffee in her hands. Mary loves yoga (turns out deep breathing is good for moms), riding bikes with her kids, baking sourdough bread, drinking fancy cocktails, and having nights in instead of out.
Mary has been a nurse on that same obstetrics unit for 15 years and has been privileged to be a part of the arrival of countless precious lives. She has guided women into motherhood and helped them begin the journey into one of the most rewarding (and challenging!) periods of their lives. Being a nurse has made Mary a better mom, and being a mom has made Mary a better nurse. One of the things that Mary has learned over the years is that the best way to be a mom is to keep all the extras as simple and easy as possible. When her sister Bekah shared her vision of Simply Toofers and invited her to join her as a mom-entrepreneur, Mary jumped on the chance. Mary’s focus has always been what happens inside the hospital walls. Her goal now is to make other moms’ lives as simple and easy as possible AFTER they leave the hospital by providing great products that babies and parents love to use. Why? Because parenting IS challenging, but what you and your babies use shouldn’t be.
Bekah: The Middle Sister
If you would have asked Bekah what she wanted to be when she grew up, the answer would have been clear: “No idea, but look at these pretty notebooks I painted.” Creativity has always been an outlet for this middle sister. Seeing things for what they can be instead of what they are mixes well with a need to make any and everything. It’s a passion that would lead her to art in college and be an entrepreneur as an adult. These skills would take her through her young adulthood as she travelled the world and lived in Honduras as a communications director for a non-profit.
In 2012 she got herself reacquainted with a stud named Grizz (real name Nathan), they got hitched and planted roots in Lexington, Kentucky. Motherhood wasn’t ever really a huge goal for Bekah so she started her first official business, Simply Done Invites, a successful wedding stationery company. This allowed her to hone in on her graphic skills and feed that entrepreneurial spirit.
When it was time to start a family, infertility issues began. It was never a lifelong dream of Bekah’s to have kids, but the thought of not being able to have a family of her own was devastating. After years of trying and 5 miscarriages, they got their miracle. Ana Rose was born in October of 2019. First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby! You know what comes after baby? Baby product companies, of course! Simply Toofers was born when Ana Rose debuted because babies need all the things. All. The. Things.
Bringing people together is what Bekah does best so asking her sisters to join her newest brain child was an obvious next step. She would be the brains of the operation and make her sisters do all the work… (JK, guys…. JK :). They fell for it and now here we are; a sister squad bringing you the best mom approved baby products!
As a mom, Bekah needs things to function, but they also need to be visually pleasing. It’s who she is, bless her heart. Simply Toofers makes her mama dreams come true! Functionality meets beautiful design with each piece. Now, when people ask Bekah what she wants to be when she grows the answer is clear, “No idea, but look at these pretty Toofers I made!”
Sarah: The Little Sister
Like her two older sisters, if you would have asked Sarah what she wanted to be when she grew up, she wouldn’t have had an answer for you. Growing up as the youngest of seven, she got to watch her siblings pursue all kinds of careers and start businesses of their own. But none of their paths seemed appealing to her. Now, if there was a job that would pay her to travel and explore other countries that would have been perfect. But instead, Sarah went to the University of Kentucky and got her degree in International Relations. During her time at UK she was able to travel several times to Eastern European countries and Russia. It wasn’t until something clicked while visiting an orphanage in Belarus that she realized what her purpose was and what was truly important in this life. Family. Seeing children without brothers, sisters, and parents was eye opening and from then on shaped her desires. From that point on, she knew she wanted a family of her own. She knew she wanted to be a mom.
Enter, Kevin, her future husband and baby daddy. Kevin and Sarah met during her last semester at UK and got married in 2013. Sarah continued on in school, earning her Master’s Degree in Human Development and Leadership, with a focus on Nonprofit Management from Murray State.
A few years after Kevin and Sarah got married, they were “ready” (because are you really ever ready?!) to start a family. But also, like her older sisters, Sarah never got to meet her first baby due to a miscarriage. After watching her sisters go through that kind of loss, she was hesitant and questioned if kids would ever be in her future. However, by God’s grace, in 2017 Kevin and Sarah welcomed their first kiddo, Emmett. Ada followed fifteen months later and Sarah is due in November with their third kid.
Sarah gets to stay at home with Emmett and Ada now and loves every minute spent with them. Sarah provides an excessive amount of snacks, performs multiple diaper changes, and cleans up all the messes all in a days work. She obviously loves to help people, a lot. So, when Bekah asked Sarah to join in and help with her Simply Toofers business, it was hard to say no. Helping her sisters in whatever way possible and helping fellow mommas make life a smidge easier with great products is now on her ‘to do’ list. Hopefully, in the near future there will be an opportunity to explore her Nonprofit Management skills as Simply Toofers grows!
